MODERN
SQUARE DANCING
A modern square dance is " part-time
" whenever you go!
So many unique dimensions make it
great!
People are brought together for
fun,
fitness and friendship!
It's a great way to share common
interests
with others and to escape the stress
and
tension of today's busy world
with a little laughter.
It's About Socializing With Many Interesting People!...
Square dancers are all kinds of
interesting people
sharing a love of moving to music
and of stimulating teamwork!
Friendships often develop in square
dancing
to a point where groups of dancers
enjoy other activities together off
the dance floor.
Unbelievable opportunities for travel
exist,
made possible because the dance moves
are standardized in English world-wide.
Fellow square dancers in other lands
will welcome you like long lost relatives!
It's a unique sub-culture.
In The Okanagan & Shuswap Regions Square Dancing is Extra Special !...
It's exciting to square dance
in the Okanagan and Shuswap regions
because the recreation is very well
organized.
Non profit square dance clubs thrive
in most cities
and towns, meeting to dance once
a week,
and membership fees are most reasonable.
Generally, once a month on a Saturday
evening,
each club hosts a special " Party
Night, "
featuring a square dance caller &
round dance Cuer,
often from afar.
Some clubs sponsor square dance weekends
complete with very special callers
and cures,
multiple events, attractive decorations
and extra tasty refreshments!
The local clubs co-ordinate their
activities through
the Okanagan Square and Round Dance
Association.
The Association hosts special dances
itself,
such as one for new dancers or the
annual
three-day Spring Fling celebration
to herald spring!
Also, the Okanagan Valley is home
to the
week-long B.C. Square Dance Jamboree
Held in Penticton Every August.
